The casting process is finished with the inspection process. This can be as simple as a visual review and counting to very involved dimensional layout and non-destructive testing. The level of inspection must be determined by the end application of the part. In addition to the inspection of the part, inspection can include testing of samples taken during casting for chemical analysis, mechanical properties, physical properties, etc. Although the investment casting process represents one of the most exacting dimensional casting processes, most parts are subsequently machined on some surfaces before they are ready for end use.
